Directory of Therapists
Fyi Beyond Trans has a Directory of Therapists available on their website
Hi everyone
Just a short note to remind everyone that Genspect’s sister website, Beyond Trans, offers a Directory of Therapists for those who are seeking well-informed therapists who reject a medical model for identity and instead value a therapeutic process to help deal with distress. You will find the therapists here: https://beyondtrans.org/therapists/
I recommend that parents consider engaging the help of a therapist so that you can be supported as you take charge of the family dynamic. While it is sometimes very helpful for a teenager to attend therapy, more often than not I hear of teens attending therapy for many years before any material changes take place. In the meantime, the family unit can be devastated.
For this reason I have started to focus on encouraging parents to get help for themselves in the face of this unfolding medical scandal. I know this is intimidating but I also think it is very valuable. The more the parents is helped with issues such as rolling back mistakes, strengthening their bond with their teen, seeking extra-curricular activities that will help, and learning how to cultivate open discussion in the household, the more likely the teen’s challenges will begin to change and evolve.
You’re very welcome to comment below on issues you have found to be completely overwhelming and also valuable lessons you have learned along the way.
I have a 21 year old daughter who cut all contact with me because I refused to affirm her new identity. It has been 6 months since she moved out and finally she wants me back in her life. I know many would be thrilled to get this opportunity. The problem is, I don’t really want her back in my life. She is on testosterone now and I truly feel unable to hear her deepened voice or see the changes this drug is doing to her body.
I don’t see many parents talk about how they deal with the medical changes to their beloved kids. I have been thinking I need to find a therapist who can help me learn how to at least have some contact with her and not end up crying for days afterwards.
Stella, have you seen Buck’s latest interview with Brianna? Another lawsuit on the way from a child who began transition at thirteen.
