Eldur Smári Kristinsson: Speaking Truth Under Fire
We’ll be recording this important conversation on July 16th for future release. Submit your questions in advance to be considered for inclusion in the discussion.
We're interviewing Eldur Smári Kristinsson on July 16th for Beyond Gender, and this is your chance to help shape the conversation.
Eldur is co-founder of the Lesbian and Gay Alliance in Iceland and a gay activist who has been speaking out about the profound impact of queer theory and self-identification laws in Iceland. His insightful talk from the Genspect’s 2024 The Bigger Picture conference in Lisbon offers a compelling case study.

He reveals how Iceland—despite its strong progressive human rights record—has been dramatically reshaped by self-identification laws and the penetration of gender ideology into key institutions. What makes his perspective particularly urgent is that Eldur is currently facing his third round of criminal prosecution under Iceland's hate speech laws for social media posts where he raised concerns about gender ideology's impact on children. The charges were initiated by Samtökin '78—Iceland's equivalent of Stonewall.
You can see Eldur speak again at Genspect's upcoming The Bigger Picture Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 27-28, 2025, where he'll be giving a talk called "Staring Down, Pointing At, and Speaking Truth to Power.” Tickets selling fast - secure your seat now.
If you're a paid subscriber, drop your questions below for potential inclusion in the interview. What would you like us to explore with Eldur?

Why Iceland is so americanized? Why icelandic literature isn't popular in Iceland and books are just sold in bookstores in english original? Does the fact that Iceland has so many tourists influence popularity of progressive/queer ideology is any way? Do you regret that Iceland separated from Denmark or it's good that such tiny nation has independence?
Youtube is not allowing his talk from 2024 to play. Just wanted to let you know.
