Pick a Gender, Any Gender: The EU's New Strategy Explained
Yesterday I joined Niall Boylan to break down the European Commission's new LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy and why Irish parents need to understand what's coming.
Your five-year-old could soon have the legal right to change their gender. Your right to question it? That could be illegal. And if Ireland refuses? Brussels is threatening sanctions.
This isn’t dystopian fiction. It’s the European Commission’s new LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy for 2026-2030, and yesterday I sat down with Niall Boylan to explain why every Irish parent should be paying attention. The response has been overwhelming.

What This Strategy Actually Does
The new EU strategy removes all age thresholds for legal gender recognition. No parental consent. No medical assessment. If your ten-year-old says they want to be the opposite gender and you seek therapeutic support to explore what’s happening, that could become illegal.
They’ve redefined “conversion therapy” - a term that meant electric shock torture of gay people in the 1950s - to now criminalise parents seeking help for confused children. Minister Roderic O’Gorman’s own research found virtually no evidence of actual conversion therapy in Ireland. Three cases from religious extremists. That’s it. Yet Brussels wants to make therapeutic exploration illegal.
How Brussels Forces This Through
I explained to Niall how the EU machinery really works. They never start with legislation - that would trigger resistance. First comes a “strategy,” a boring document nobody reads. Then it gets tied to funding. Schools need EU money? They must teach gender identity. Healthcare systems want grants? They must provide “affirming” care.
Stage by stage, it becomes embedded in teacher training, medical protocols, social services. Years later it’s law, and parents wonder how it happened.
This playbook isn’t secret. The Dentons report explicitly advised activists: “tie your campaign to more popular reform” and “avoid excessive press coverage.” Keep it quiet. Move it through bureaucracy.
That’s why RTÉ isn’t covering this.
Who’s Really Writing These Policies
Athena Forum exposed it in their devastating policy brief: this strategy was “adopted without democratic scrutiny” and written by transactivist lobby groups funded by the Commission itself.
Zero impact assessment on children. Nothing on women’s rights. Meanwhile, LGB International - representing actual lesbian and gay organisations across 18 countries - can’t even get a meeting. Their formal response states plainly: homosexuality is based on biological sex, not gender identity.
The Commission ignores them while trans lobby groups write policy.
The Children Paying the Price
The most vulnerable children are disproportionately affected. Studies show 11% of children in gender clinics have autism - five times the general population rate. Some clinics report 35-70%.
Legal gender recognition starts a medical cascade. Social transition leads to puberty blockers. Blockers lead to hormones. Hormones lead to surgery. Here’s what they won’t tell you: 98% of children prescribed puberty blockers progress to cross-sex hormones. Without medical intervention? 80% naturally resolve their distress.
I lived this. From age three, I desperately wanted to be a boy. The distress was real and lasted years. What resolved it? Natural development through puberty - the same process these policies would prevent.
Under this strategy, I’d have been legally recognised as male and put on blockers at eleven. I’d never have experienced the development that helped me understand who I actually was.
Through Genspect’s Beyond Trans program, I now facilitate support groups for nearly 500 individuals dealing with transition regret. They face irreversible changes: altered voices, compromised fertility, surgical outcomes they cannot undo. They were children when these decisions were made.
The Cass Review led the UK to ban puberty blockers. Sweden, Finland, Norway - all pulling back. Brussels? Full speed ahead.
Ireland Already Rejected This
Irish people saw through this ideology. In our 2024 referendum, we delivered one of the biggest defeats in referendum history. 67.7% voted NO to redefining family. 73.9% voted NO to removing biological sex from our Constitution.
The people understood what politicians wouldn’t admit: biology matters and children need protection.
Now Brussels wants to override our democratic decision. Any member state that doesn’t comply faces defunding. They’re using our own tax money to force this ideology on our children.
This Is Your Moment to Act
We’re at the critical point - while this is still “soft law.” Once it’s embedded, it’s nearly impossible to reverse.
Contact your child’s school immediately. Write: “I do not consent to my child being taught gender identity theory or that biological sex can be changed.” Get other parents to send the same message. Schools respond to numbers.
Email your TDs this week. They claim nobody’s concerned. Prove them wrong. Remind them Ireland already voted NO. Find your TD here.
Join Genspect Ireland. Thousands of Irish parents share your concerns but think they’re isolated. They’re not.
The shame you feel about speaking up? That’s been weaponised against you. They’ve made protecting children seem bigoted. But when five-year-olds can legally change their gender while parents who question it face prosecution, silence is complicity.
Talking to Niall yesterday crystallised why this matters. Most people instinctively know this is wrong. They just need permission to say it out loud.
Ireland said no to gender ideology. Now we must make Europe listen before they make our no illegal.

It's already happened in Canada.
Atrocious! Sickening!
This must be stopped.
Thank you for standing up Stella. Love you. 💐💝
