The HORRIFYING Reality of Porn Exposure on Kids
The impact of porn on young people these days is vastly underestimated. In my work I see an awful lot of young people who've been really badly impacted by porn and we have to address what's going on.
The impact of pornography on young people is far greater than many realise, leading to serious psychological issues and unhealthy behaviours around sex and relationships. Recent reports in the UK have found that 22% of teenagers aged 14 to 18 frequently watch porn, with some showing signs of addiction. Alarmingly, children as young as nine are being exposed to explicit content, distorting their understanding of intimacy and relationships.
In response, the UK government is introducing stricter age verification rules. From July 2025, platforms like Pornhub and OnlyFans will require users to verify their age using tools like facial recognition, aiming to prevent underage access to adult content. Similarly, the rise of deepfake pornography is causing serious concern. Public figures, such as Vicky Pattison, have spoken out about their experiences with deepfake images, highlighting the growing need for stronger legal protections against online abuse.
These issues are not confined to the UK and Ireland. Across the Atlantic, the US Supreme Court is considering the legality of Texas’s age-verification law, which could pave the way for nationwide standards on restricting access to online porn.
This push for change reflects a growing recognition of the harm caused by unrestricted access to porn. The challenge now is to ensure these measures are implemented effectively to protect kids from its damaging effects.
