“The parents…?” this makes me want to scream even more silently. We are heard, not heard, told not to ‘lose it’ live on eggshells, write, post, comment and grieve. Four years my son, no clue what these hormone experiments are doing to him & I am vilified & exiled.
If it were not the detransitioners and parent push-back, we wouldn’t be where we are today—which is by no means a solved problem, but much better than five years ago.
This is rich, considering the modern medical profession’s habit of convening ethicists to dissect everything from end-of-life care to CRISPR embryos—yet somehow, when it comes to the irreversible medicalization of gender-distressed youth, debate on the ethics of the practice is suddenly off-limits. The same institutions that issue ethical guidelines like they were Band-Aids now treat the most basic question—should subjective identity override biological fact?—as taboo. That alone speaks volumes about the moral blindness of the sex-change industry.
So glad for you to get Paul McHugh on. Enjoyed the history. I felt there could have been more emphasis on the Dx. He mentioned AGP - would be curious if he has more to say on that. Is it only heterosexual men or could also be homosexual men as Dr. Charles Moser critiques reading Blanchard’s studies. What was the name of the book written by Lionel Penrose discussing the five stages of a movement?
The "viral" spread of the current IDEAS, which Freud described in his papers on Hysteria and his essay "Group Psychology"( the contagiousness) appeared in modern times as the false memory era and earlier multiple personality era and now in transgender knee jerk affirmative responses.
In theater, It was also depicted by Arthur Miller in The Crucible as the hysterical beliefs spread through a group of teenage girls resulting in the death of another character, Tituba.
Excellent episode. I’ve been following these issues ever since my daughter transed 3 years ago and it’s not often that I gain genuinely new insights. This was one of those interviews! Thank you for bringing Dr. McHugh to us. I hope he will be back.
Thank you to Paul McHugh!
Several years ago when our daughter inexplicably hopped on the trans train, I sent an email to Dr. McHugh.
He responded with a phone call.
(And I am not the only parent whom he has taken the time to listen and counsel regarding a sudden trans identity in a teen girl.)
Dr .McHugh said that ultimately it will be parents pushing back that gets the GAC shut down.
He's a hero!

Yes, I get it. I am in the same boat.

We have invited him back on and we’ll ask Paul these questions, thanks!
What a wonderful episode! Many thanks.
You know, "gender dysphoria", "gender incongruence", etc.........................they all sound like the re-pathologizing of homosexuality.
What an informative, thoughtful and heartfelt interview!
