Read: 'School which allowed child to identify as a cat faces Government investigation'
Telegraph article, 20th June 2023
Hi,
I was quoted in this article in the Telegraph this week where I was speaking about the ‘School which allowed child to identify as a cat faces Government investigation’
I wanted to take this opportunity to share the article with you. Please click the link here to read more.
Stella O’Malley, a psychotherapist and director of Genspect, who works with vulnerable children, said:
“Teachers are working in a vacuum. They don’t know much about this and, in a bid to be kind, they are going to cause long-term distress.
“If you are going to enable a child to be dehumanised, if they are using any pronoun that isn’t ‘he’ or ‘she’, it’s literally dehumanising them. I think it is something that they [teachers] will regret in the long term, when it emerges that they have been led by an ideology and it has no evidence base.”
THANK YOU for making it possible for someone based in the USA to read the article you're quoted in without subscribing to The Telegraph first.
So is this the beginning of the next craze, “identity as the animal of your choice”. I just have no words. I am a teacher of 5/6 year olds. Dramatic play is part of there discovery and growing. They are free at recess to “pretend” to be bats, cats or dinosaurs. However when recess is over so is pretending. Kids need boundaries. This let the children lead thing is NOT working.
