I resonated with his talk in Lisbon and even more with this episode. And I somehow agree with both Mia and Frank about the notion of the emerging adult. It's not so much that suddenly no one is capable of "adulting" before 25 (and justified in giving it up over the weekend or just whenever), but, yes, the world is more complicated, so we need more time to bake, and we have also coddled and presented this notion to kids. We've told them that they need all this time to figure themselves out and focus on who what why they are. The world has colluded with the notion that real life pauses and waits with anticipatory celebration for their emergence from a chosen cocoon of identity exploration. As Maia Poet writes, you can't worry about your gender identity and a binder when you are running from bombs. As an ROGD parent, I know it has been useful to refer to the "You're brain isn't fully formed until 25" idea with my daughter to stall and hopefully play out the clock on medicalization, but I've also tried to pepper in the idea that this whole ideology, along with victim culture and the glorification of the oppressed, has hindered her generation's sense of actual autonomy, resilience, and true self acceptance.
I agree with the content but not the proposed resolution. Subversive childcare to ‘teach ideals’ is wrong no matter what. No adult has the right to teach any values whatsoever outside of family and parents.

He had me at “Roots and Wings.” Ahhh! I now see that’s his Substack name. Wonderful.
